Background
The purpose of Workstream 5 was to identify Biztalk integration adaptors that are needed to support the delivery of front line service and back office processing in Local Authorities. We then specified, procured and built these adaptors in line with the group's priorities.
Vision
To build a selection of BizTalk adapters and make freely available to any other Local Authority. The financial benefits are to avoid the expense of buying multiple API and point to point integrated adapters typically deployed in the local government IT landscape.
Objectives
- Identify and share experiences regarding Biztalk adaptor deployment within participating councils
- Co-ordinate and agree a method for prioritisation of future Biztalk adaptor developments
- Identify potential suppliers for development work and procure that development
- Agree a roadmap and timescale for deployments
- Ensure that transfer schemas are sufficiently generic and agreed by all participating councils
- Research and agree the best method of delivery
Business Challenge
We all know that real-time integration between applications can save vast amounts of time and money by automating data flow and eliminating the need for dual-keying. It can also help to achieve a complete 360 view be it of a customer, case or incident, by pulling in many data sources into a one complete view.
It is also though notoriously difficult and potentially costly to achieve (integration can often double the cost of an application implementation). Microsoft’s Biztalk tool is a commonly used solution by many Local Authorities and can help to achieve true integration. Biztalk skills are though hard to find and can command high fees on today’s market. Therefore, sharing skills and investment is an obvious way for Local Authorities to reduce costs and implementation timescales.
